Join us for a presentation by Erin Rae Hoffer of Autodesk Inc.

Summary: The shift to building information modeling impacts roles and opportunities for professional service providers. The session will focus on the impact of model-based design and construction on sustainable design (both policy and practice), the move toward collaborative project delivery (including design-build, integrated contracts, and public-private partnerships) and the impact of work process as firms move to adopt new strategies and competencies. Participants will engage in an interactive discussion about the impacts they are seeing in their own work, including evolving client expectations.

Bio: Erin Rae Hoffer AIA LEED AP BD+C is an architect with Autodesk, a leading provider of software for architecture and engineering. With AEC Solutions at Autodesk, Erin fosters the adoption of innovative approaches to design and practice. Prior to joining Autodesk, she served as Executive Vice-President with the Boston Architectural College (BAC) and served on the board of directors of the Boston Society of Architects as Commissioner of Technology. She led technology and services organizations for Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Tufts University. Erin received a Master in Architecture from UCLA, and a Master in Business Administration from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Sustainable Urban Policy at Northeastern University’s program of Law, Policy and Society. She is registered to practice architecture in California, is a LEED Accredited Professional and member of the AIA and CSI.

Presentation #1: Scan to BIM with "Scan to BIM": Working with point cloud data and Revit is not cloudy anymore!

Speaker: Andre Carvalho, BIMSolutions Inc., Toronto, ON

Summary: In reference to a local Ottawa project, Andre will be presenting about his experience with different point cloud solutions and how "Scan to BIM" definitely makes working with point clouds in Revit an easier task.

Bio: BIM specialist and implementation strategist at BIMSolutions Inc., Andre Carvalho has more than 16 years of experience in the AEC field, the last 10 years using Revit and the last 5 implementing BIM in large firms. Since 2006, BIMSolutions Inc. has been successfully helping AEC companies in Canada with BIM implementation, mentoring, content creation, as-built models and all their BIM needs.

Presentation #2: From 3D Laser Scanning to Revit: Processes, Products and Questions

Speaker: Matt Mason, Imaginit Technologies, US

Summary: With all of the work in renovation, retrofit, and adaptive re-use projects, there is a wave of interest in using 3D Laser Scanning to capture as-built conditions. 3D laser scanning provides compelling benefits in terms of accuracy, speed, and limiting site visits – but the biggest challenge has been the deliverable – everyone wants a Revit project. This presentation will cover a variety of topics around the state of the art – including:
- Up-front questions that you need to ask yourself and the scanning provider
- Recommended processes
- Tools and technologies, including the new “Scan to BIM” application for Revit.
Bio: Matt is the Director of Software Development at IMAGINiT Technologies (formerly Avatech Solutions). He has been working on software development in the CAD and Data Management world for 19 years. He has worked on both packaged software and company-specific software in the AEC, manufacturing, and facilities management industries. He has been developing software products and projects for Revit since version 8.1. Matt holds a B.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering from University of Michigan.
